Overview

Tags and segments help you organize customers into groups for targeted marketing, personalized experiences, and analytics. Tags are managed through the dashboard and can be read from the storefront.

How Tags Work

  • Tags are labels applied to customers (e.g., "VIP", "wholesale", "first-time-buyer")
  • Segments are dynamic groups based on rules (e.g., "spent over $500", "purchased in last 30 days")
  • Tags are assigned manually or automatically via automations

Reading Customer Tags

Tags are included in the customer profile:

typescript
import dash from "@/lib/dash"

const { customer } = await dash.auth.getProfile()
// customer.tags = ["vip", "wholesale"]
// customer.tier = "gold"
// customer.tier_name = "Gold Member"

Personalizing by Tag

typescript
// Show VIP-only content
if (customer.tags?.includes("vip")) {
  // Show exclusive products or discounts
}

// Show tier-specific pricing
if (customer.tier === "gold") {
  // Display gold member pricing
}

Managing Tags

Tags are managed via the dashboard or the admin API (requires secret key). See Dashboard API for programmatic tag management.
