Managed databases

PostgreSQL you do not have to run.

  1. In cloud.dashfordevs.com → Databases, choose Create database.

  2. Name it, pick PostgreSQL's version, choose shared or dedicated, and optionally a project.

  3. Wait for Ready (a shared database takes seconds).

  4. Attach it to an app, or open Connection details to see the host, port, database, user and password.

How credentials are kept

  • The password is not stored in our database. It lives in a secrets vault and is read only when a member with permission asks for the connection details; that request is recorded.
  • Databases accept connections only from trusted sources: the apps you attach them to, inside the private network.

Shared and dedicated

A shared database is your own database and login on a tenant Postgres server shared with other customers' databases (never with the DashForDevs platform's own data). It is the cheapest way to start, and it is never HIPAA.

A dedicated database is its own server with its own encryption key, and is HIPAA eligible.
