What runs on write

Every record write is checked against its type's schema (validate_data). Two classes of error come back, as human-readable strings:

• Missing required values — 'Serial number' is required. Empty string, empty list and null all count as missing.
• Unknown keys — Unknown field 'serial_numbr'. Unknown keys are an error rather than being silently kept: a typo'd field name that quietly persists is a bug you find months later in a report.
